My dear sisters and brothers in Christ. On this third Sunday of Advent, as we light the third candle of the Advent wreath, representing joy, we are reminded of the joyful expectation of the birth of our Saviour. The first reading of today speak of hope, rejoicing, and the call to prepare the way for the Lord. Prophet Isaiah proclaims the good news of God’s salvation, bringing hope to the oppressed and the broken hearted. Prophet Isiah encourages us to rejoice and put on garments of praise because God is faithful in his promises. In the second reading Saint Paul inspires us by inviting us to rejoice always and to pray without ceasing. He reminds us of the continuous presence of God in our lives, the One who sanctifies us entirely and keeps us blameless for the coming of Christ.
Saint Paul encourages us by saying, do not worry about anything, but pray about everything. In the Gospel, we encounter John the Baptist. John points beyond himself to the Light that is coming into the world, Jesus Christ. He humbly accepts that he is not the Christ but only a messenger preparing the people’s hearts for the Saviour’s arrival. By this act John tells us that, great people are those who make others feel great. Today the question for us to ponder is, how can I bring joy and hope, healing and reconciliation to wounded hearts and lives?
