Celebrating 150 years of the Cathedral of St Stephen
God’s people Celebrating 150 years of the Cathedral of St Stephen

On Pentecost Sunday, 28 May 2023, we begin a year of celebration to mark the 150th anniversary of the opening and blessing of the Cathedral of St Stephen. During this year of joy and thanksgiving, we will celebrate with many events and festivities which honour the contribution of the Cathedral to both the local church and the city of Brisbane, acknowledge the Cathedral as the centre of the sacramental and liturgical life of the Archdiocese, promote the Cathedral as a cultural and civic icon, and engage in a renewed mission for the Cathedral community. Pentecost Sunday, May 2024, will be the highpoint of our celebrations as we give thanks, and ask God to pour out upon the church of Brisbane the freshness and creative power of the Holy Spirit once more. Entrusting this year to God, the Most Reverend Mark Coleridge, Archbishop of Brisbane, has penned the following prayer.
