A position has become available at Wesley Hospital for a remunerated Team Leader/Pastoral Carer in the Catholic team within the Pastoral Care/Chaplaincy Department at the Wesley Hospital in Auchenflower.
20 hours per week: Monday to Friday
Centacare Pastoral Ministries supports Catholic Pastoral Care in State Government and most private non-Catholic hospitals in the Archdiocese. Pastoral Carers are energised by God's Spirit. They work along side other professionals, and ecumenical colleagues to faithfully respond to God's call to extend the compassion and healing of the Risen Christ. Pastoral Carers serve people who are in hospital, their families and hospital staff.
The purpose of this position is twofold:
a) To ensure that patients, their family members and staff receive the benefits of Pastoral Care according to the Catholic vision for hospital pastoral care in the Archdiocese of Brisbane.
b) To provide leadership and support to other members of Catholic Team within the Pastoral Care /Chaplaincy Department of the Hospital and to represent the Catholic Church at any Chaplaincy Department meetings and at other official Hospital meetings and functions as required.
Ideally applicants will fulfil the following requirements:
• Ability to support by action, communication and example the vision for Catholic hospital pastoral ministry, within an ecumenical team
• Successful completion of Chaplaincy/Pastoral Care training
• Previous experience within a pastoral care team in a hospital environment
Organisation of weekly rosters
Organisation of the Sunday roster for Extraordinary Ministers of Communion
Provide hospital training and orientation for Extraordinary Minister of Communion
Prioritise and visit assigned wards, support patients and their families
Be responsible for the provision of appropriate care for all Catholic Palliative Care patients and Oncology referrals
Ensure sacramental needs are met
Contact the priest according to patients' needs
Provide practical and spiritual support to staff, allied health professional and volunteers
Provide active support within the Pastoral Care department
Plan, prepare and deliver weekly worship services televised to patient rooms
Participate in planning special services i.e. adult and infant bereavement services, Christmas and Easter Services, ANZAC Day, NAIDOC Day and Ash Wednesday services etc
Attend Pastoral care team meetings
Actively engage with Centacare Pastoral Ministries by attending seminars and on-going professional development opportunities
Support Ecumenical relationships
Supervise Catholic trainee pastoral carers on placement
Health Professionals and Support Workers Award (Commensurate with qualifications and experience)
