God’s people Let’s Pray A prayer for the desire to live in holiness

Sisters of St Paul de Chartres, Sr Theresa, shares a prayer for our deep human longing to live in holiness and in full communion with God. As St Augustine reminds us in his book, Confessions, “You have made us for Yourself, Lord, and our hearts are restless until they rest in You.” May we always seek to find true comfort in the loving arms of Jesus. Let’s pray!

Hi, I am Sr. Theresa, a Sister of St Paul of Chartres. My journey with God in religious life has been filled with gratitude and joy. At times, parts of it may have seemed unfortunate in the eyes of the world, yet again and again those moments became treasures of the heart in my relationship with our loving Triune God. One of those stories is from my final profession. Because of COVID, the celebration was moved and ended up taking place on the Feast of the Holy Trinity, without any of my family present. Even my family in Melbourne could not come, as the borders closed just three days before. At first, this was painful. But as I reflect now, I hear a gentle whisper in my heart. The invitation to be united with the community of the Holy Trinity is more than enough to satisfy my soul. With this in mind, and as we prepare to celebrate the Feast of All Saints, I would like to share with you a prayer from my heart, a prayer for the desire to live in holiness, in friendship with God.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Lord Jesus. Plant deep within my heart a burning desire for holiness; living as Your beloved, through my daily choice of love. Teach me to live each moment with joy and gratitude, to embrace both the quiet prayer and the beauty of serving others. May my life become a living Gospel, poured out for You, shining with Your kindness, drawing hearts ever closer to Your Sacred Heart. Help me to live fully, to love generously, and to serve humbly, so that when night falls, my soul can whisper, “All for You, Lord Jesus.”

We pray always in union with our loving Triune God, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

God bless you, and thank you for praying with us.
