Welcome to our special series where we invite you to join us in commemorating the remarkable journey of Archbishop Mark as he reflects on 50 years of dedicated pastoral service.
Archbishop Mark’s journey began on May 18, 1974, when he was ordained as a priest at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Melbourne. Since then, his unwavering commitment to serving the community has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
On April 2, 2012, Archbishop Mark was named the Metropolitan Archbishop of Brisbane, a testament to his leadership and devotion to his faith. But his journey to priesthood was not a direct path. Initially pursuing studies in English and French with aspirations of joining the diplomatic corps, fate had other plans for him. He followed a vocational calling, leading him to a life of service within the Church.
Archbishop Mark’s academic pursuits took him to Melbourne University, where he learned an Arts degree with majors in English and French. However, his true education in faith and service took place at Corpus Christi College’s various campuses in Werribee, Glen Waverley, and Clayton during the years 1969-1974.
Reflecting on his five decades as both a priest and a Bishop, Archbishop Coleridge acknowledges that his journey has been filled with surprises. Yet, through it all, he has found solace in the words, “Jesus often surprises, but he never disappoints.”
Join us as we delve into Archbishop Mark’s reflections, celebrating his enduring legacy and the countless lives he has touched over the years. Through his words and experiences, may we find inspiration and renewed faith in our own journeys of service and devotion.
