Many belong to a group, football club, or racing, or athletics, Lions, or the Rotary, music group, or some other sporting group. Though with them, if things get difficult or we get bored with it or we move towns or cities, or we get older, we can simply opt out. Baptism says however, that you belong for life no matter your ability, skill set or age level. You’re part of this group of people called Christians. The commitment to our faith in baptism is about people and relationships. The activity comes along as well but it is after people are placed front and centre because at the heart of people is Christ. We are made in His image and likeness and have been baptised into the Spirit and life of Christ. And we belong to God not because what we do, but because of who we are in Christ. May it be our identity, in how we live, love and make this Christ present in our hearts, families and world. As God the Father says about Jesus, this is my Son, the beloved, my favour rest on Him, may we hear the love that God has for us as God says to each of us in our hearts. This is my son, this is my daughter, where my favour rests. Amen.
