On September 5, we joyfully celebrate the feast day of St Teresa of Kolkata, known to many as Mother Teresa, whose life is a shining example of total trust and faith in God amidst hardships. She teaches us to be faithful in the small, often unseen acts of love. We are blessed to hear from Sister M. Hannah M.C., of the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa, who shares with us the profound lessons Mother Teresa imparted to the world through her humble obedience to God’s holy will.

Mother Teresa, our foundress, used to tell us that we are contemplatives in the heart of the world. In whatever we do, we need to be in union with Jesus. Mother Teresa would say do everything with Jesus, for Jesus and to Jesus. Mother Teresa took the words of Jesus. Whatever you do to the least of my brothers and sisters, you do it to me. People may say, well, that’s so tiny. But Mother Teresa would tell us it’s like a drop in the ocean. But if that drop wasn’t there, something would be missing. So we just try to do small things with great love as Mother Teresa taught us. Mother Teresa had a mystical experience of Jesus. Jesus said to her, “I thirst for your love and the love of all those who don’t know me.” People used to ask Mother Teresa when she came to Australia. Why are you here? And Mother Teresa would say there’s a lot of lonely people here. Mother would say you preach without preaching. So just by our presence, people know who we are. Just by walking on the street, they feel that presence of God without us saying anything. Mother Teresa had a business card that she would offer to people. She said, The fruit of silence is prayer, The fruit of prayer is faith, The fruit of faith is love, The fruit of love is service The fruit of service is peace. And when you are doing God’s will, it will bring you great peace. Thank you.
