Brothers and sisters, let us glory in the Cross. I put to you that the Cross and brazen serpent are alike. The Israelites, while in the desert, lost their patience with God. Straying from the right path, so to speak, they were plagued with snake bite. God instructed Moses to forge a brazen serpent. When Israel looked at the serpent, the venom was negated. In the case of the brazen serpent, venom was healed by a non-venomous serpent. In the case of the Cross, our sin, our straying, was healed by the Son of Man’s obedience unto death. Therefore, when you or I start to lose our patience, and stray from the right path, let us look upon the Cross. So that, our impatience might be healed by looking upon patience, patience that was exalted at the Ascension. Brothers and sisters, let us glory in the Cross. I said that the brazen serpent was like the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom be glory and honour for ever and ever. Amen.
