Catholic Archbishop of Brisbane, John Bathersby and Chair of the Catholic Education Council for the Archdiocese, Sr Mary McDonald will TOMORROW formally launch the new vision statement for Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Brisbane.
After more than 12 months of consultation and participation from Catholic schools and educators across the Archdiocese, the vision statement has been endorsed by Archbishop Bathersby and will be launched in a ceremony at the Fr Bernard O’Shea Centre, Lovedale Street, Wilston from 3.15pm.
Chair of the Catholic Education Council, Sr Mary McDonald said the statement was another marker in the long tradition of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese which this year celebrates the 160th anniversary of the opening of Queensland’s first Catholic school in Brisbane in 1845.
Sr Mary said the new vision builds on the overall Archdiocesan vision of Jesus, Communion, Mission and reflects this vision in the way Catholic educational bodies Teach, Challenge and Reform.

Embracing the Archdiocesan Vision of Jesus Communion Mission each Catholic community, organisation and individual collaboratively engaged in the educational ministry of the /church in the archdiocese of Brisbane is called to:
Teach
We promote faith in Jesus Christ, teaching and learning about Jesus, the gospel and the faith of the Catholic Christian community. Learning is lifelong, life-giving and engages the whole person.
Challenge
Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we challenge those we educate to live in communion with God, others and the whole creation in prayerful, sacramental, just, peaceful, inclusive and reconciling communities.
Transform
We educate for a transformed world in communion, by nurturing the gifts and potential of each person, enacting shared leadership, and exercising a preferential option for the poor and the marginalised.
The Catholic Archdiocese of Brisbane contains more than 150 Catholic schools, 72,000 students and covers a geographical area encompassing much of south-east Queensland spanning metropolitan Brisbane, the Gold and Sunshine coasts, west through Ipswich and the Lockyer and Brisbane valleys and through the South Burnett region and north to Childers.
The Catholic Education Council has as its purpose the recommendation of broad educational policies and advice to the Archbishop and seeks to initiate, encourage, support, promote and coordinate Archdiocesan educational activities.
