Maryborough families invited to Centacare’s School Savvy Pop-Up Shop (Wednesday 14 January) to ease back-to-school costs
Families in Maryborough who are doing it tough are being invited to make the start of the school year easier and more affordable with the upcoming School Savvy Pop-Up Shop.
Delivered by Centacare Brisbane, which services the Fraser Coast region, School Savvy is designed to help Maryborough families prepare for the 2026 school year while easing the financial pressure that often comes with back-to-school costs.
The School Savvy Pop-Up shop will take place on Wednesday 14 January 2026 from 9am-2pm at Maryborough Neighbourhood Centre, 25 Ellena Street, Maryborough.
In a safe, welcoming and respectful space, the shop will provide the following for gold coin donations:
- Affordable pre-loved school uniforms for local students from Prep to Year 12
- School supplies such as backpacks, water bottles, lunch boxes, stationery and other essentials
- Vouchers for local hairdressers
“Back-to-school costs can be challenging for many local families,” said Patricia Gorman, Area Manager, Centacare Family and Relationship Services, Fraser Coast. “The School Savvy initiative brings together the community to provide practical support directly to Maryborough families. Together, with our wonderful community partners, we’re helping children start the school year feeling prepared, confident and ready to learn.”
School Savvy is made possible through community support, with some local partners set to volunteer or attend on the day and many others contributing behind the scenes. School Savvy partners include Maryborough Neighbourhood Centre, Second Life Women’s Hub Yoorana, Lifeline Maryborough, Bunnings Warehouse Maryborough, The Barber Shop, Bottlebrush Craft Centre, Sauers Maryborough and The Services Club Maryborough.
Originally established by Centacare FNQ in 2016, School Savvy has expanded across Queensland. The 2026 launch in Maryborough marks the first time the initiative will be delivered by Centacare Brisbane, in response to identified local need.
Centacare Brisbane Family and Relationship Services provide support for individuals and families in the Fraser Coast region through individual, family and relationship counselling, domestic and family violence support, family mental health support and community programs.
Centacare Brisbane warmly invites all Maryborough families to visit the School Savvy Pop-Up Shop on 14 January — operating on an honesty policy of “take what you need to start the school year confidently”.
