I’ve only been here a few days and looking forward now to just trying to meet people. There seems to be a very strong culture of collaboration and just support, so people have been really, really both friendly, and helpful so far.

So we’re here today at Cleveland which is part of the Ramsar Protected Wetlands of Moreton Bay.

Today I’m here at the Port of Brisbane on the land and waterways of the Turrbal people.

Hi, this is Bishop….I’m… This is, I am, right, okay.

Hi, I’m Bishop Tim. And I’m here with you today so we can pray together.

So prayer was this integral part of Jesus’ life and of the mission of Jesus. So he’s our kind of model of prayer. But his relationship with God, his Father, was at the core of all of this, at the very centre.

When we receive the love of a brother or sister, it is the presence of Jesus. When we share that same love with a brother or sister we help to make Jesus present.

As Christian people, reconciliation is one of our primary tasks. Anything we can do towards reconciliation makes us better Christians wherever we are in the world.

Be careful if Jesus offers to make you see because that inner sight of empathy and compassion can be very costly. But it will only make us better followers of Jesus.

I want to make a commitment to you. There’s a lot for me to learn about the spirit of God in this place, here in this Archdiocese. And you are the ones to teach me. I humbly ask that you take this task seriously so that we can work together in the great mission of God in the joy of the Gospel.

Thanks for joining us today and I hope to see you again soon.
