I enjoy playing golf. To improve, and this is needed, I need to dress as a golfer, take my clubs and go to the golf course or the driving range. I can read books and watch videos about playing golf but without serious personal involvement improvement will not happen. So too with increasing my faith. I have to think, speak and act as a person with faith. Saint Paul says as much to his young friend Timothy, the leader of a community. Fan into a flame, he says, the gift that God gave you. Act with power, love, and self-control. We, as missionary disciples, accept that we have Jesus as the Lord of our life. The risen one calls the shots. What He says, we do. We have a servant mentality. The Lord chose us to complete His work on earth, so we set out each day to do that to the best of our ability. We have an open ear to His speaking and we don’t harden our hearts and say we don’t have to act, think or speak like that. To have a strong and growing trust in God that is exactly what we have to do. My day-dreaming about golf is grounded in reality. So you substitute the activity you wish to grow and develop then apply those same dynamics to your faith in God’s abiding love for you and the world you live in, and see the impact you have.
