When we reflect on the life of Christ, we can clearly see that Jesus left His family and His home town to bring God’s love to those who needed Him, and even in His life, He did not have a good place to lay His head. He was born in a manger and He lay on the cross as He died. That is why Jesus wants anyone who follows Christ to be like Him. If we follow Christ, we need to give up many things, but we are not perfect in giving up many different things. God always invites us to be wise in following Him to prepare for eternal life. As we know, priests and men and women religious have to give up many things, even leaving their families, parents, brothers and sisters and friends to serve people and the Church wherever they go. Each person has his or her own calling and each calling has its own cross to bear. The calling that God wants each of us to follow so that we can attain the Kingdom of Heaven. In the midst of the chaos and darkness of life, Saint Paul teaches us that even though he was old and still in prison, he continued to write about the mystery of death and the Cross for others. Never think that you are too old to change your life or the world. Knowing how to put God at the centre, we will have a reference point to aim for. If at any time, we are confused by the countless choices and different forks in the road, we should ask ourselves, which path will bring more glory to God.
