Catholic Archbishop John Bathersby will ordain two new priests for his Brisbane Archdiocese on Wednesday June 29.

The candidates for the priesthood, Nigel Sequeira and Paul Catchlove, have both enjoyed full lives outside of the church before embarking on their vocations.

Nigel Sequeira was born in Africa and has previously worked for the Red Cross and as a television producer and freelance cameraman for the International News Agency. He was seconded to various American news networks during the invasion of Kuwait and the first Gulf War.

Paul Catchlove has experienced both culture and the coalface, having propped down at front row for St Laurence’s College First XV but also using his powerful singing voice to perform in supporting roles with Opera Queensland.

The ordination Mass starts at 7.30pm in the Cathedral of St Stephen on Wednesday June 29.

The date is significant as it is the Feast of both Saint Peter and Saint Paul, the founding fathers of the church, and the traditional day on which new priests are ordained.
