The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which starts Sunday 4 May, celebrates its centenary this year.

In Brisbane archdiocese, the week will climax with an ecumenical worship service led by Archbishop John Bathersby of Brisbane at St Stephen’s Cathedral on Friday, 9 May at 5.30pm.

Church leaders including Anglican Archbishop of Brisbane Dr Phillip Aspinall and Moderator of the Uniting Church in Queensland Rev David Pitman and delegates from other member churches will also attend the service.

Local churches have also been encouraged to hold ecumenical services throughout the week.

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity was started by American Episcopalian Rev Paul Watson, who later became a Catholic, in 1908.
