Multicultural Pastoral Care

The Archdiocese of Brisbane supports and celebrates the gift and contribution of cultural communities.

Multicultural Pastoral Care
God’s word Multicultural Pastoral Care

Our Church is forever changing, with new people, bringing new energy, purpose and impact to our community. The large and growing cultural communities of the archdiocese have gifts for the whole Church. We are committed to nurturing the spiritual energy of the many cultures represented in our parishes.

The Archdiocese of Brisbane celebrates, responds to and advocates for the needs and concerns of Catholic cultural communities. This includes providing multicultural pastoral care and intentionally developing pathways towards an intercultural church.

The archdiocese celebrates a multicultural Mass every year to mark World Day of Migrants and Refugees in September. The Multicultural Mass is an opportunity to embrace the cultural diversity of the archdiocese and celebrate the great gifts God has given cultural communities for the good of the whole Church.

Catholic cultural communities also play a vital role in the annual Archdiocese of Brisbane Corpus Christi Procession, held between the end of May and the end of June.

Beginning at St Stephen’s Cathedral and processing through the streets of Brisbane, the Corpus Christi procession is the largest annual gathering of Catholics within the archdiocese. The Corpus Christi procession draws together a huge congregation of people from diverse cultural backgrounds, nationalities and walks of life, gathering to share their beliefs and spirituality. It is a beautiful illustration of the diversity and richness of our Catholic Church. Parishes, communities, and groups walk together, bringing banners celebrating their patron saints and often wearing traditional attire. The Corpus Christi procession is a magnificent event that unites us not only to acknowledge the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist, but also to remind us that Jesus is truly present among us.
