When Queensland was in its infancy there was some thought given that Ipswich might become the state capital. The beautiful St Mary’s Church at Ipswich certainly would not have been out of place as a Cathedral, but it was not to be. Perfectly situated across the road from parklands and a number of school campuses (St Mary’s Primary and St Mary’s College, as well as St Edmund’s) it still remains a central hub of faith.
