Born in Sydney in 1958 to Joseph and Dawn Norton, Bishop Tim grew up with his older brother, Chris, and younger sister, Julie. He completed his education at Marist Brothers Eastwood before earning a Bachelor of Applied Science in Physiotherapy from Cumberland College, Sydney. 

Bishop Tim Norton SVD was ordained as Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Brisbane on 22 February 2022 at St Stephen’s Cathedral. 

Answering a later vocational calling, Bishop Tim professed as a Divine Word Missionary (SVD) in Mexico in 1986 and was ordained a priest in 1991. His early ministry took him to Mexico, where he served from 1991 to 1996, followed by postgraduate studies in Spiritual Direction in Melbourne in 1997. From 1998 to 2004, he held various leadership roles within his order in Australia. 

As Provincial Leader of the SVD Australian Province from 2005 to 2013, he collaborated with Archbishop Mark Coleridge to establish a Divine Word Missionary presence in Brisbane’s multicultural parishes of Inala and Kingston-Marsden. From 2014 to 2021, Bishop Tim served in Italy, focusing on promoting interculturality among consecrated men and women. 

Now serving in Brisbane, Bishop Tim brings his deep passion for culture and mission to his ministry.
