The Queensland Government has announced the wonderful news that the Greater Brisbane lockdown will end at 12:00 noon on 1 April. Easter celebrations can continue as planned. This news brings great relief and joy. The following are the details and of specific things parishes will continue to observe in order to keep our parishioners, guests and volunteers safe.
- Please bring your mask to Church with you. For the next two weeks, from 12pm today to Thursday 15 April, all Queenslanders must carry a mask when they leave their homes. Masks are to be worn in indoor spaces, including places of worship, and worn outdoors when social distancing is not possible.
- Capacity limits for churches will return to the same levels before the lockdown (unless otherwise notified, this includes funerals and weddings). Capacity limits require:
- No more than one person per 2 square metres for areas open to or used by parishioners, whether indoors or outdoors; or
- Up to 100% of seated venue capacity, provided patrons are in ticketed and allocated seating.
Please book your seat for Mass early – contact your parish or visit your parish website to book in and ensure your space for Easter liturgies. It is still possible for parishioners who have not pre-booked to “walk-in” to attend Mass, as long as there are spare seats based on capacity and details are recorded at the time of entry.
It remains very important that marshals continue to record contact information so that parishes can provided details if contract tracing is ever required.
We will continue to monitor the evolving situation closely and will keep you informed. May this be a blessed time for each and every parish and fill God’s holy people with every joy and a stronger sense of Easter hope.
