Local and national media have today carried a news story relating to a fatality on the Gold Coast which took place in the very early hours of Sunday, February 24.

The incident occurred at the St Vincent’s Catholic Church, which was closed at the time.

St Vincent’s Catholic Church is one of three Mass centres that comprise the large Surfers Paradise parish. This particular church was subsequently closed for regular Sunday Mass services.

The following statement has been issued by a parish spokesperson:

“The Catholic community of Surfers Paradise extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of those involved in last night’s tragic incident.

We are praying for all involved and we will continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Our other parish Mass centres at Broadbeach (Stella Maris Church) and Clear Island Waters (Sacred Heart Church) will hold their regular Mass services while police investigations continue.”

Parents of school students should note that the parish’s many Catholic Schools and Outside School Hours Care services (St Vincent’s Primary at Clear Island Waters, St Michael’s College at Merrimac and St Kevin’s Primary at Benowa), which are not co-located with the St Vincent’s Catholic Church in the heart of Surfers Paradise, will operate as usual on Monday February 25.
