Let’s Talk About Lent – Episode 2: Preparing for Lent – Transcript
Hey guys I’m Fr Will. Hi I’m Sr T. And we’re here to talk to you guys about Lent, Lent. Sister, how do you prepare for Lent?
As a religious Sister, I have much to prepare for Lent. And to let the gardener prune me and prepare me intentionally. I have much to be pruned because just by strive to practice three habits of the wisdom of mother Church have provide for us. That is fasting, prayer and almsgiving. But also during Lent we have extra prayer time like Lenten program, Stations of the Cross. But it is for me to get discipline in my prayer life, intentional, concentrate and create the efforts of regular space for God to be in my life.
So as religious sisters, I live my three vows of chastity, poverty and obedience. It is called the Evangelical Counsels. It is a time for me to go deeper to live on my vow. It is just time to turn from my human condition to the life of God, the life of Christ. Actually it is a call for all the baptised to live this Evangelical Counsels.
But also for me personally during Lent, I would like to take the attitude of gratitude. And a non-judgmental gentle mind. Because very often I would expect other to do what I expect them to do for me. It’s like, expect them to be God in my life. So I think, I even think that I need to forgive them for not being God in my life. But during this Lent I think I need to practice mental prayer. So mantra prayer, a short prayer during the day, as soon as I wake up. It’s like a, Come Holy Spirit, breathe on me. Or, Jesus I love you. Or, God of love, fill me with your love. All that short prayer will keep my mind and my heart turned to God. How about you Fr Will?
Yeah I think it’s important that we are kind of focused on the goal of Lent. You know, to continually come back to Christ. And so, people can prepare in so many different ways, but we encourage you just to get out there and really give it a go. Come back to Christ and use this time to really grow in your faith.
