The Archbishop of Brisbane, Most Rev Mark Coleridge, has announced the appointment of Ms Pam Betts to the key role of Executive Director of Brisbane Catholic Education from February 2013.

Ms Betts’ credentials as an educator and leader are formidable, with a curriculum vitae showing an accomplished progression from teacher, middle manager and administrator to various director or assistant-director roles within key Brisbane and Queensland Catholic Education bodies.

Many organisations will delight in the appointment of Ms Betts, but in particular school communities where she previously taught such as St Mary’s College, Ipswich; Our Lady’s College, Annerley; St Peter Claver College, Riverview and All Hallows School where she was Head of Senior School.

Since July 2010 she has been the Director – Administrative Services and a member of the leadership team at the Brisbane Catholic Education Office.

She will succeed Mr David Hutton, the incumbent Executive Director since 1998, and has enjoyed a close working relationship with him over the past two decades.

In addition to her Bachelor of Science and Diploma in Education, Ms Betts holds a Diploma in Theology and a Masters in Educational Leadership. In late 2012 she will complete a Masters in Religious Education.

Archbishop Coleridge has been able to make the appointment with great confidence, following a national advertising of the position and a panel process involving nine senior Church and educational leaders.

The Archbishop announced the appointment on July 23rd, serendipitously coming at the start of the annual Catholic Education Week which focuses on the contribution Catholic schools make statewide.

“I congratulate Pam on her appointment and I look forward to working with her closely in her vital role in advancing the mission of the Church in the Archdiocese,” Archbishop Coleridge said.

“I would also like to express my gratitude to Mr David Hutton for his splendid contribution as Executive Director of Catholic Education for the past fourteen years.

“I look forward to joining the Archdiocesan community in farewelling David from his role later this year,” he said.
