The Christian vision of the family
The Christian family is a communion of persons, a sign and image of the communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
In the procreation and education of children it reflects God’s work of creation.
It is called to partake of the prayer and sacrifice of Christ. Daily prayer and the reading of the Word of God strengthen it in charity.
The Christian family has an evangelising and missionary task. (Catechism of the Catholic Church n.2205)
Support for the family
As well as the support offered by the parish community there are various voluntary groups and agencies in the Archdiocese of Brisbane which support families.
The Family Group movement is present in many parishes in Brisbane. The aim of the Movement is to build Christian community through the development of extended families. With loneliness and isolation so prevalent in our society, there is a genuine need for people to know and support each other. Family Groups create an extended family atmosphere within the community and are open to everyone. Further details may be found at the Passionist Family Group Movement website.
Centacare Brisbane offers a range of services directed at families including helping those who have gone through a break up of the family.
Family Prayer
A vital part of family life is praying together. Various resources to assist in family prayer are available through the Evangelisation Brisbane and our section on prayer.
