The Archdiocese of Brisbane is committed to ensuring the health and safety of employees, volunteers, and those we serve through Centacare, our parishes, and ministries across South East Queensland.
As Queensland’s borders are set to open in coming weeks there will be increased risk of COVID-19 infection in the community. In preparation for this, Queensland Health continues to require that people are vaccinated in order to participate in an increasing number of events and activities.
As we view the situation in Australia and internationally, it is clear that vaccination is the most effective way to lessen the risk of exposure or the risk of passing the virus on to others within our community. Therefore, the Archdiocese of Brisbane has made the decision that employees, contractors and certain volunteers will need to have received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccination by 15 December unless they have an official medical exemption.
Pope Francis, in a recent video message, said that, “Vaccination is a simple but profound way of promoting the common good and caring for each other, especially the most vulnerable. I pray to God that everyone may contribute their own small grain of sand, their own small gesture of love.”
We believe this vaccination policy is a necessary step for the common good as Archdiocesan employees continue to protect the health and safety of the individuals and families we work with and serve.
