Author: Archdiocese of BrisbaneDear brothers and sisters. The crowd looked face to face with amazement and they asked each other, ‘isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?’ Today’s Gospel says, some said, “Yes it is the same one”. Others said, “No, he only looks like him”. Then the man himself said, “I am the man”.
It’s a wonderful situation in this Gospel passage. Jesus healed the blind man with his divine touch. The Bible says, Jesus touched the eyes of the blind man and told him, “Go and wash in the pool of Siloam.” Then Jesus continued his journey. The blind man did his portion. That’s very important. God restored his eye sight. With unbelievable amazement the people asked him, “how did it happen?” “And who did it for you?” According to Gospel, he explained everything. However, they did not believe in Jesus and his divine power. Because Pharisees and scribes influenced the crowd to close their eyes to Jesus, the son of God. Therefore, finally they accused Jesus for the violation of the Sabbath law, because Jesus did this miracle on the Sabbath day.
Today also, many people close their eyes to Jesus and his teachings, through the influence of modernism and other false teachings. So, they miss the divine touch, they miss the divine healing and they miss the divine joy. In today’s second reading. Looking at the followers of Jesus, Saint Paul says, “You were darkness once, but now you are light in the Lord.”
In this Lenten season, let us learn more about Jesus and God our father. It will open our eyes to see the divinity of God.
