The crucifixion of Jesus shattered the dreams of his disciples. Some of them locked themselves in the room. Few of them went back to fishing. Two of them ran away from Jerusalem. But Jesus never leaves anyone astray. Jesus journeys with them, shares the meal, opens their eyes and hearts. They return to Jerusalem, and share their experience of meeting the risen Christ. Now Jesus appears again, giving them the gift of peace, the first gift of the risen Lord. Jesus eats and proves that he is not a dream, he is real. There are situations or events in our life, which really frighten us. We may struggle to recognise who is my friend, who is my enemy. These are times, we even forget to pray, we feel lost, lonely, and in trouble. Christ may appear right in front of us and we may still not believe, because what He does is beyond our normal experiences and expectations. The disciples, want to believe, but to believe asks quite a bit of them because they had seen the Lord Jesus suffer and die. Jesus dies in our lives, when we exclude God from our decisions, when we ignore the demands of love and close the door of forgiveness.
The Easter invites us to believe and witness the living God. We are sent forth to share the joy and peace, as we share our story of meeting Jesus, who is alive, yesterday, today and tomorrow. He is alive for you and for me and for all.
