The first priority in Archbishop Mark’s Apostolic Priorities for the Archdiocese of Brisbane, documented in With Lamps Ablaze, is Teaching Prayer. He says, “Often we urge people to pray but don’t really teach them how to pray… Now is the time to teach ways of prayer which are mature and all-embracing. Christian prayer begins not with speaking but with listening; and learning to pray is therefore learning to listen – to listen even to the silences of God. If all we do is speak, then in the words of Jesus we “babble like the pagans” (Matt 6:7). But if we speak after listening and in response to God who always has the first word, then we speak according to the mind of the Holy Spirit. That’s what we need to teach and learn. In the Gospel of Mark, we read that Jesus called the twelve apostles to himself, first of all, “that they might be with him” (3:14). This is where the mission starts: being with Jesus, which is what prayer is.”
Join us for our new weekly series, Let’s Pray, where we invite you to pray along with us. Each week we will invite you to pray a new prayer with us – maybe you don’t know what to pray, or want to pray along with someone, or want to practice your faith through prayer. Our Let’s Pray series is for everyone.
Let us take a moment to send our love and prayers to all parents, both near and far. As children, we are grateful for the endless love they show us each day. We invite you to join Louis and Charlie to pray for parents and that God may bless them abundantly, filling their hearts with happiness and their days with joy, just as they bless us with their presence every day. So, let’s pray.

Prayer for Parents
Author: Archdiocese of Brisbane
Hi my name is Charlie. And my name is Louis. Today, we would like to say a prayer for our parents and parents around the world. We, as children, feel their love every day in countless ways. We would like to offer a prayer asking for blessings for our dear mums and dads. Let us pray.Dear God, thank you so much for giving us the best parents in the world. They hug us, they make us laugh, and they always take good care of us. Please bless our parents with lots of love and happiness. When they are tired, give them rest. When they are worried, bring them peace. Help them to know how much we love and appreciate them every single day.
Saint Joseph and Holy Mary, just like you took care of baby Jesus, please watch over our mums and dads. Guide them with your kindness and wisdom, and keep our family safe and happy. Help our parents to always find time for each other and for us, making our home a place where love grows every day. Teach us to be good and kind, just like our parents teach us about Your love.
God, please fill our parents’ hearts with joy. Let their smiles shine bright every day because when they smile, our whole world lights up. Thank you God, for listening to our prayer. We ask for your blessings on our family, today and always. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Thank you God, for hearing our prayer today. As we continue with our day, let us always remember to cherish and honour our parents. Fill our home and our lives with love and joy. Thank you all for joining us in this prayer. May God bless you.
